Places to eat in Cornwall: Route 38

Sharing is caring!

Get your kicks on the A38

Update: Route 38 was an amazing American Style Diner in Cornwall. Sadly this restaurant and the rest of its chain closed at the end of 2022.

If you are looking for a slice of classic Americana in Cornwall than you can’t go wrong with Route 38.

Whilst it doesn’t quite have the malt shakes or classic booths you imagine at an “All American Diner” this Bar n Grill will certainly fill your appetite.

Where is Route 38?

You can find the diner on the A38 at Trerulefoot roundabout, across from Kernow Mill, serving food from early to late and in huge portions at that.

Inside, the restaurant is very themed with celebrity photos, american road signs, low hanging lights, printed napkins and more.

What’s on the menu at Route 38?

The food is also very Americana including Tex Mex, large combo plates, buttermilk pancakes and thickshakes-we tried the Hershey’s, Reese’s and Skittles and they were all delicious!

When we went (about 3.30) they were still serving the morning/day menu but we managed to wrangle some veggie fajitas (which were amazing) from the late afternoon/evening menu and share a veggie breakfast! My partner, a non veggie, was happily catered for with the pulled brisket.

Meals are big enough to share especially if you want to try a starter, dessert or one of the colossal thickshakes so make sure not to over order!

Two meals could easily feed three of us. Or one starter/one main between two. But that varies depending on your appetite of course! We also found it was much more enjoyable to have a little bit of different things rather than a vast quantity of the same-but again that is personal preference. We loved the veggie combo platter!

There are great Veggie options on the menu which gave me loads of things to choose from which really makes a change. According to the website there is also a vegan menu. It seems they have really tried to cater for different dietary requirements all whilst maintaining a themed menu and I think that is something to be congratulated.

Whilst you don’t tend to visit Cornwall for the American food I think it is well worth a visit if you have the time and the stomach!

I love to travel and pick up a tshirt from every magic location I visit! Suffering from a chronic illness travel isn't always too accessible but when I travel I always look for travel with extra magic!
