Getting in the vacation mood!

Holiday music playlists, themed to the destination, are the perfect way to make the travelling feel like part of the vacation itself!

Going on holiday generally involves a lot of travelling whether it’s by train, plane or automobile. The perfect antidote to this is a themed music playlist. One long enough to cover all the time it will take (no one wants the same 9 songs in a loop-that won’t help!) to get there including both journey and waiting around time (for example whilst sitting in those delightful plastic chairs at the aeroplane gate).

What songs to include in your Holiday music playlists?

The best songs are obviously ones you love, perhaps that you haven’t listened to in a while. Upbeat songs tend to inspire that holiday mood but I always try to throw in some slower ones or perhaps some instrumental pieces. If you are road-tripping a great playlist (that is either long or you won’t grow tired off) is a definite must!

For example, when travelling to Florida lots of Disney songs were required from classic films as well as Disney music from the parks and pieces themed to what we were doing such as the Imperial March to get us excited for the Star Wars Dessert Party on our first day.

Holiday Music Playlists-Florida

Now we have stayed in the Art of Animation resort I would include some of Brian Wilson’s in the Key of Disney album next time.

Whilst in Florida we were also visiting Universal so I included Pharrell Williams’ songs such as Happy and Freedom (which featured in Despicable Me/Minions) and some classic pieces from the Harry Potter theme track. We also attended a Beach Boys concert so a couple of their greatest hits would be perfect for this playlist.

If we had been visiting other areas of Florida, such as Miami, then LMFAO and Will Smith songs would have been perfect to get me in the mood.

Other Locations

If we were travelling to California some classic Beach Boys would be first on my playlist. Songs which reference the area you are travelling to are the perfect obvious fit (i.e California Dreaming by The Mamas & The Papas and California Gurls by Katy Perry or New York titled songs could fill a playlist a 1000 times!) but also think of what triggers happy holiday vibes-whether its ‘Summer Holiday’ by Cliff Richard or ‘Summertime’ from the aforementioned Will Smith.

Plus making the playlist in advance of your trip is just a great way to use that holiday excitement without bouncing off the walls or packing two months early!
