Galactic Dessert Party at Walt Disney World
A Star Wars Dessert Party
Whilst the Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party at Walt Disney World is not currently available it was still a great experience and similar to current offerings. Plus one should never give up hope of a return after all-This is the May!
Our Experience with the Galactic Spectacular
Whilst visiting WDW in February 2018 we attended A Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party in Hollywood Studios.
We booked this for the second night (first full day of our trip). We were a little worried as we arrived so late the night before (our plane was delayed around 5 hours) but we were so glad we booked it for this day in the end.
This was for two main reasons
1) For once we were happy to turn up at the park post lunch time as we knew we had plans to stay late. This meant we could lie in and relax after our late-night delayed flight the night before.
2) It was an amazing immersion into Disney. It really kicked off the holiday with a blast. Plus we felt so much better afterwards. We were so dehydrated from the previous day but because we booked it we “had” to go. Those tasty drinks will really rehydrate you!
Arrival
When we attended we were given a check in time and spot. This is where we were given a souvenir lanyard which marks you as an attendee. When the time came to enter we were collected by a cast member and taken to a standing area with buffet tables.
We then had a couple of hours to eat and chat to friendly cast members. You could also venture away to meet characters or see exhibits. We mostly just stayed in the area as we had time to come back and see characters another day.
The food
Desserts are the main focus. There were different fun stations such as mini cupcakes and freeze ‘fried’ Nutella (now listed as chocolate mousse). However the savoury options, mostly dips, were so delicious it kept everyone in our group happy. Especially a certain Star Wars fan who really enjoyed the atmosphere and all the clever references in the food! There was also a range of interesting drink options.
Then at a set time we were taken in single file past a big tub of souvenir steins (Phasma was our design but previous parties had Chewbacca designs) and then out to a reserved firework (standing) viewing area.
Updates to the Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party
You can learn more about the current experience here which has changed a little since we went.
There is now seating which wasn’t available at the time and the food offering seems to have varied slightly. Also Disney Movie Magic was new at the time and not advertised so whilst we did see it it was a fun surprise! Since COVID the page seems to be down but hopefully the experience will return soon!
(Update its 2024 and still not back so seems unlikely! There are however other dessert parties.)
Is a dessert party worth it?
I would definitely recommend attending a dessert party as it was a fun celebratory experience, and although expensive, as a once-off on the trip was totally worth it.
In fact I’m tempted to look through the list right now and dream about our next vacation!
Next time we go I would look into booking another either at the beginning or end of the holiday for the most memorable impact. Just remember to go hungry, eat slow and enjoy!
