Cambridge Folk Festival-a history

Cambridge Folk Festival has been running since 1965 annually. Held in July every year, ignoring a covid blip, this festival attracts over fourteen thousand visitors, many of whom are returning fans. It’s known for its unique atmosphere and mix of acts. Three main stages where musicians big and small can rub shoulders and perform.

The festival takes over the large park in Cherry Hinton Hall offering different stages with different experiences as well as camping, food trucks, workshops and so much more.

Cambridge Folk Festival has won awards for its green initiatives and has many environmental commitments making it stand apart from the crowd in a world of rubbish and wrecked fields.

This year the festival will be held from the 25th till the 28th of July.

My experience with Cambridge Folk Festival

Last year I was lucky enough to win a pair of day tickets to the event and chose to go on the Friday to see the Proclaimers. Although I grew up around Cambridge I had never been before. However my husband who grew up in the village of Cherry Hinton has been many times during his childhood.

I really loved the mix of acts from sea shanties with The Longest Johns to hip hop with Arrested Development. I also particularly enjoyed the selection of food on offer with great veggie and vegan options including vegan corn dogs.

As I won tickets I didn’t realise there was an accessible section. With my chronic pain and fatigue, I really wish I had had access to this as it was such a long (painful) day. So I would keep this in mind for the future.

I love to travel and pick up a tshirt from every magic location I visit! Suffering from a chronic illness travel isn't always too accessible but when I travel I always look for travel with extra magic!
