Bodmin is a small, historic town in the county of Cornwall, well known for its famous jail. You may of heard of it or seen signs and wondered is Bodmin worth visiting?

Is Bodmin worth visiting?

Bodmin is a small town in Cornwall near the A30. About a 30 minutes drive from the village of Minions where we used to live. The town, like much of the surrounding area, is very hilly, with steep roads, twists and turns. This does however mean that there are opportunities for beautiful vistas-such as up by the Bodmin Monument.

The town of Bodmin has garnered itself a reputation of being run down. There are currently lots of empty shops however work is ongoing to renovate and bring attention to the town. The latest being the addition of a cinema. Work has been done to beautify the town including nature reserves and walking trails. There are various car parks dotted around so this does make popping in an easy experience.

Plenty of places to eat can be found here. There is a thriving cafe culture including an Alice in Wonderland themed cafe and a vegan cafe (sadly currently closed post Covid.). There are also various amenities such as retail parks, a Premier Inn with a ‘table table’ restaurant and an ASDA amongst other supermarket shops.

You can find Various attractions in the town. These include multiple museums, The Courtroom Experience and the infamous Bodmin Jail.

So is Bodmin worth visiting?

If you have the time Bodmin, and its attractions, can be worth a visit. Easy to access from the main A road in Cornwall means its not too far from most places. It’s a great stop-off option if heading further towards Lands End.

Whilst it is a little run down and in need of some love there is enough to yes, make Bodmin worth visiting. Plus if we don’t visit these sorts of Historic towns they will only reduce in quality and businesses.
