We recently took the opportunity to visit Bodmin’s new cinema to watch The Lion King!
Bodmin
Bodmin is based about 30 minutes from Liskeard and is the next small town through Cornwall. It currently has lots of shut shops and not much to offer. However there is a lot of regeneration work been done in the town to try and bring visitors back. This includes the new cinema.
Inside Bodmin’s Cinema
Bodmin’s cinema is so very new and set in a beautiful old building which was a church. You can spot friezes, stained glass windows and so many other beautiful details all over. These have been highlighted rather than hidden which is great to see.
It is also situated near two car parks-one literally by the entrance-which is great for access. It has free parking on Sundays! The turning for the cinema is just as you get into Bodmin. This means it is great for easy access from the A road.
Bodmin’s Cinema is owned by the Merlin Cinema’s chain which is not one I have heard of or been to before so I can’t compare it to any others.
Bodmin’s Cinema Screens
The cinema in Bodmin has four screens I believe. The one we were in had about 10 rows of seats so quite small.
The seats were very clever in that they folded up flat, including the arm rest, when not in use so they were easy to walk past which I loved. This isgreat for accessibility. There was also generous leg room which was great. The seats were a little narrow. You did feel extremely close to the people next to you. The arm rest was narrow too so that was a bit uncomfortable especially compared to other modern cinema seats
Being new it had a great screen and sound system. And, unlike the Vue in Plymouth which I have had multiple bad experiences with, it actually went dark!
Cornwall has no ‘chain’ cinemas but it does have a small amount of Independent cinemas including in Truro and Wadebridge.
If you are in the area and after a wet day activity or a local I would recommend this cinema!
